Cold Weather Clothing
I have been seeing advertisements for some line of clothing called Shiver Shield, it's supposed to be made of stuff called aero foam gel and is only 2mm thick. The manafacturer claims it will keep you warm to well below zero temps. If you have any experience with this clothing please post a reply, I'm getting old and can't take the cold very well and would pay the high price if it really worked, but it sounds too good to be true to me.

If it isn't a gimmickry, the tests are quite convincing! View Video

Re: Cold Weather Clothing
My concern is quality based on what I've seen, there's far more to a jacket than just the insulation type used. There's the outer fabric, the stitching, the brethability and important considerations about how the insulation is contained.
I'd be worried that the great new insulation would force sacrifices in other areas just to keep costs low.
That said I'm very picky about my winter gear and I have no experience with this brand to say anything specifically positive or negative.
I am excited to see these types of products hit the market though and I would love to test-run the jacket in sub-zero temperatures (I spend some time in -10 degree conditions almost every work day, in a walk-in freezer).

Shiver Shield Web Site http://www.shivershield.com/cold-wea...thing-hunt.php
Several things bother me:
The jacket has open selves, open waist band and no hood
Zippers are not covered with an overlapping windbreak
Sizes of M, L, XL and 2XL do not have a comparable measurement in inches chart
A puncture lessens the thermal ability
And lastly, the priceLast edited by Rich-D; December 22nd, 2011 at 12:27 PM.

Re: Cold Weather Clothing
I use under armour and the right layers and cover the head and feet good and you should have no issues.

Re: Cold Weather Clothing
If you can afford it? I have been wearing Browning Hydro Fleece jacket not the coat and the bibs with Cabelas hunter series 1000 gram thinsulate goetex boots for over 20 years. I never get cold or wet. I have hunted NY State deer in minus 4 Deg with a 20 mile wind and I wasn't cold. Jacket is goetex thinsulate with a insulated hood storm flap zipper front, velcro sleeve closers, and elastic waist Hood closer will cover your neck. Bibs have a storm flap on the zipper but only 2 small front pockets. I wear gaiters to keep the snow from belling around my pants legs. The only thing I wear is Poly propoleen medium wieght under wear next to my skin and then the suit. No pants, sweat suit, or T-shirts/ flannels. just long underwear and the suit. You can turn a hose on that suit and you wont get wet, wind isn't an issue either. Sorry for the spelling. The only thing about the setup is that my suit is in mossy oak como so I have to wear a cheap orange vest. I have been hunting north eastern Pa for over 20 years Sullivan, and Susquehanna counties and have never come in early because of the weather. Good luck with you choice of outer wear, I just wanted to let you know what works for me.
