Company Policy
So recently there was an "incident" at a company party. Nothing big, but big enough for management to bring it up. Company memo was sent out:
Does this seem to say one cannot have a firearm in their vehicle parked in a lot on company property? Or is it not clear on that topic? Looking for other opinions on the wording.
Thanks.

Re: Company Policy
Is your vehicle parked on the premises owned by the company?
Your best option, park your vehicle off company property, then you wouldn't be in trouble.Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Re: Company Policy
If management saw the concealed firearm in question, it was not concealed very well
I too would agree that premises includes the company parking lot.

Re: Company Policy
It's an argument that can be argued either way...which makes it fun.
To an extent it is a question of private property, at will employment (or even contract employment), and employee rights.
Truthfully a balance would be employees could keep it in their cars, but the company cannot be held liable, say if someone breaks into the car, and the gun is then used in a crime. Now if the employee was negligent in storage, he might be responsible.
Personally if I was a company with a policy of no onsite weapons I'd be tempted to craft an exception that employees keep the gun unloaded and the mag on their person. Yes a thief could get a new mag and bullets...but neither are cheap. I mean the mags especially!
Then again an employee comes in tired one morning and does a bad clear of their gun...oh boy, and with that you can understand why companies want to avoid it all together.
I think that's a valid argument, especially if it's at will and the policy was existing prior to ones hiring. Then again one could argue the same with discriminatory practices...then again commerce clause solved that problem.
