Default Pistol Storage Ideas For Your Safe

Ok everyone, I recently picked up a 16 gun safe and although it holds my current rifles fairly well, the pistols just take up too much space on the top shelf. I've looked around at door storage options and dont seem to be able to find anything that looks like it will work resonably well. My problem is that the door itself is only 17" wide, so the typical racks for door mounting are all too wide.

So what have you creative guys/gals done for pistol storage in your safe??

Feel free to throw out some ideas on this.

Yes, I know I should have bought a much larger safe, but I had numerous factors come into play regarding safe size/location/access.

I use something similar to this:

Not sure how much room that would save you.

How many pistols we talkin' about? I just have 5. I keep all but my carry pistol in the factory boxes on my top shelf. My safe is the same size as yours.

That is what I use. Works good if to do not care about the gun box.

Here is an idea for the door using swing spools.

+1 to this, also, I forget what its called but in the last Midway catalog I saw a magnetic single pistol rack that you can stick to anything that contains metal, i.e. inside of a safe door. It was pretty cool and I considered getting one, just a suggestion.

Picked this up from Cabelas for my 12" door.

Let us hope for the best, but let us also prepare for the worst.

I thought about something like this, but would prefer them mounted on the door. Once I run out of room on the door, thats my next option.

I like the spools mounted on the door idea. Is that just through bolted with a washer & nut on the back?

Plastic inserts for dry wall should work fine. But I like the through bolt and washer idea.

There are companies that sell strorage systems for the door. Here is an image I found on google. I have no idea as to a company name.

I found a few on them on google, but most of them held 4 pistols and then had a bunch of various pockets on them. I really just want to hang my pistols so I have room on the shelf. Once the door is full of pistols then I'll find room on the shelf for more

The problem I found the most was the narrowness of the door. The smallest pre mfg racks I could find for 18" wide. Beside the fact that they want $80 for them.

I dont really trust the velcro style holsters that you would fasten to the door with velcro either, seems kinda weak

Far from it. They were able to hold my 9.5" Super Redhawk up with no problem at all. I let it sit in there for a couple days and tried to pull the holster off the velcro with my hand, it took a lot of force to get it to budge. The only reason that revolver is not still hanging from the door is because I mounted an Ultradot on it so it no longer fits in the holsters. Thus you can now see it taking up the entire top shelf.
