Glock 19 - Gen 3 or Gen 4

I am looking at getting a Glock 19.

I have an offer of a Gen 3 w/ ISB holster for $400.

How is the Gen 3 different from the Gen 4 and would you take the 3 or hold for a 4?

The grips on the gen 4 are different, it has addable back straps to fit larger hands better, its got an improved recoil spring and and you can switch over the mag release if you are a lefty.

I had the option of getting the Gen 3 or 4 when I worked in a gun shop and I chose the 3 and put some meprolite night sites on it. I have been hearing about problems with the new spring in the Gen 4.. I decided to go with something that has been out longer, I don't like buying things as soon as they come out due to recalls and unknown problems.

I am very satisfied with my Glock 19 gen 3 and I don't regret my decision at all.

gen4 had slightly less felt recoil in my hands and the mag release is improved. still liked the 3 though.

Personally, I'd save my money to buy some ammo and get the gen3. I'm assuming you've held one of each before?

Gen 4's had problems when they first came out when using weak(er) bulk ammo because the recoil spring was designed to improve felt recoil. Since then, the problem has been solved. There are apparently 3 different versions I believe of the gen-4 spring. They also have an improved grip with adjustable backstraps.

I'd rather have a Gen 3 because they fit MY hand just fine, and they have no problems with the spring.

I would pay more for a gen 3 than a gen 4. 400 bucks for a Gen 3 19 can be a good deal, what sights are on it?

I have a gen-4 Glock 22. I have held both the gen 3 and gen 4 glocks and for me the gen 4 without any of the back straps felt the best.

The only Glock I have held has been the one in the case at the local gun shop.

I would assume this to be a Gen 4 but I could be wrong.

The only Glock I ever shot was a .45 with a .50 slide on it.

A guy had it at the range one day and offered for me to try it.

Told me some company down in Arizona makes the attachable .50 cal slide for on them.

That baby had bounce!!!!

There is a small gun shop that I know of that has the Glock 19 Gen 3 with the ISB holster for sale.

The gun is in great shape - used very, very little.

He said if he has it at the end of the month he will take a little more off of it.

Time to see if he still has it and make the plunge!

IMHO you can't go wrong with either. As others have mentioned, there were issues with the recoil spring and a recall was sent out. One quick phone call to Glock had it in the mail and on it's way to me free of charge.

When I was in the market for a new G23, I went with the Gen.4 just because I have smaller hands and it felt a little better than the G23-Gen.3. Either way, it's a Glock. You'll love it.

I prefer the Gen 3 grip over the Gen 4. It just seemed to fit my hand (and my wallet) better. There's no more problems with Gen 4 recoil springs so don't worry about that.

I thought the mag release on the Gen 4 was enormous. I definitely saw myself hitting it by accident. The stock Gen 3 mag release was too small for me, but the Tango Down replacement is just right.
