WElcome aboard to the board Loyd.

In the future whenever you ask a question like that it would be helpful if you post the following information so we can better know how to help you.

    1) Gun mAker name

    2) Caliber of Gun

    3) type of Gun (e.g revolver , Pistol shotgun , rifle etc.)

    4) model of gun , e.g Smith &Wesson 3913 compact 9mm.

However some members on here will attempt to answer your questions without really knowing what you are talking about.

Without knowing further details, my first suggestion would be to try a different magazine.

The title says M&P9 compact, so I think that would answer some questions.

To the OP I second the mags. I would also like to know if you are using reloads or factory stuff...

1.Thumb position on weak hand. Fire till empty with one hand to see if it locks open

    2.Mag spring

    3.Ammo

Upgrade to stronger springs for the mags. You can never go wrong with a beefed-up spring. Then check your grip/strong hand shooting. If you bought the gun used, check and see if someone installed a buffer. Slim chance, but sometimes buffer/ammo combinations can cause slide-lock problems. Keep us up to date.
