Deleting old event dates
I would suggest that we either have an IT solution or a human solution to delete all threads in the events threads, including training, guns shows, etc that are past the date of the event. These threads continue to build up and make it harder to see the upcoming events.

I agree, there should be a way either via moderator or system to remove posted events after the event.

Re: Deleting old event dates
I'm not sure I'm following here...
How does having old threads "make it harder to see the upcoming events"?
When I go to the event section, and click on "Gun Shows", I see "Upcoming Events" listed at the top.(by themselves, nothing outdated there)
Also, all the threads have the event date listed in the thread title.
Maybe I'm not viewing it the same way?
Also, regarding deleting the old threads, I'll use the Pgh group shoots as an example:
There are tons of photos that we share with each other in those threads and it would be a shame to lose them.
When new shooters/members show an interest, I often link them to those pages to help them understand what the group shoots are like.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Deleting old event dates
There's been changes going on every day since the moment we started the forum. We're always going to have to adapt to the changing landscape that is the forum.
With that said I don't really know what huge changes were made aside from having to urgently disable the search / new posts stuff for 2 days so we didn't crash the entire server.
Other than that all we've done is disable a few barely-used (in my mind anyway) features that took up more resources than they were worth.
The fact of the matter is we're well on our way to 7k members, 300k posts and we're getting 10k unique viewers a day with roughly 70k page views a day transferring double digit gigabytes of data a month.
As the site grows it is going to require changes to be made on both the technical and human sides to how we manage it. If we don't adapt properly we'll die.
With regards to the human side and your mention of locking/deleting current threads there's really not much difference in how we moderate now and before, it's just that there are tons more posts now that we have to deal with (many of which are just duplicates and rehashes of old threads.) We also have the issue of having so many users now that often threads get heated to the point where they just need to die as they no longer serve and purpose.Last edited by danp; February 6th, 2008 at 03:06 PM.
