    Default HK O-RING ON BARRELL

Can anyone tell me when your supposed to change the little rubber o-ring that comes on the 45's HK makes and puts on the end of the gun barrell for barrell to frame lock up.

Others may have better advice but when I had a usp .45 Tactical I didnt change them until they showed actual wear and the barrel had some play. The gun will run without them so I never gave it much thought. When I sold the pistol I still had most of the rings it came with.

    ^^ That ^^

Or when it breaks. I read a test somewhere where a guy shot groups w/ an HK45 off a sandbag at 20 yards or something, both with and without the O-ring.

There was nearly zero difference in accuracy.

I'll post if I can find what forum, article, etc. it was in...

    Regards,

456 - I always wondered about that feature a rubber band/O ring guaranteeing the accuracy of a $2k gun. You would have thought they could have thought of a more solid design. The guy that owned it didn't mind.

Now we find that it might not be necessary. Interesting.

IIRC - the 'O' ring was added to keep the H&K in the mil-specs - a barrel to slide " accuracy retaining device" was required (as in the 1911's barrel bushing) - this was done when the U.S. announced they were considering "service testing" for a new .45 ACP pistol for the military - an event that actually never occurred - but got a lot of responses from a bunch of manufacturers and provided a new wave of heavy duty .45s to the civilian market.
