Default How fast can you shoot an AR 15

Hi folks, I have a very simple question, am I damaging my AR 15 by shooting rounds through it as fast I can pull the trigger. The owners manual doesn't mention anything about this. One person told me too fast is not good, another person told me I can't damage it. What do you think?

Type DPMS 5.56 16 inch barrel 1x9 twist
    I use 55gr bullets only.

    Thanks for the help

In a word.... no. Think of the Slide Fire stock or bump firing.

doing it from time to time isnt gonna hurt it. Heating up your barrel uber hot, from my understanding will eventually lessen barrel life but that will take tons of ammo dumps. Personally I wouldnt worry about it but thats just me.

Not unless you are dumping so many mags through it at full auto that you get the barrel glowing.

I struggle to get my shots under.20 sec, but am continuing to practice.

The main damage this causes is to the wallet.

You can shoot 12 rounds per minute indefintely. Beyond that, a lot of factors come into play that I probably cannot use to help a newbie with a DPMS.

I would guess that in SEMI, if you are just trying to make noise, you can probably dump 3 30-round mags as fast as possible with not even the slightest ill effects other than a smoking barrel and hot grips. I would suggest you let it cool after that treatment.

You are probably shooting somewhere in between those two scenarios, adjust accordingly and stop when it's realy hot and smells like you did something wrong. It will be OK.

Dumped a 30 round mag bumpfiring through a junk barrel. Did the math with the stats from the IDPA timer. 625 rounds per minute. With my very accurate SS bull barrel AR, I try to stay around 5 rounds per minute.

Beat it like it owes you money! You will break your wallet before you break the AR. If you really want to see what your AR can do buy a Slide Fire Solutions stock.

With Semi-auto fire, you're likely to NOT hurt the barrel by doing rapid fire. Of course, you'll wear out the barrel faster, as you're putting more rounds through the gun faster. But that's like saying you'll wear out your tires faster because you drive 200 miles a week rather than 100 miles.

    Fire away.
