    Default Where art thou? Colt's 1911A1 Stainless 45 ACP series 70 (O1070A1CS)

I've been considering one for some time. The appeal: a true series 70 (.45 ACP) in stainless steel, factory Colt (details). As in, the W.W.II model. Looks like Colt's catering to snobs like me, hence the O1070A1CS.

    Here's a few details about the O1070A1CS:

    • Serial number is prefixed with 71B.
    • It's technically a custom shop offering, so the production numbers are low.
    • True stainless 70s from Colt weren't available before the O1070A1CS (series 80s were).

I've been looking for one for a while, I'm really getting tired of following leads only to find it's really nickel plated, bubba-ed, a rail gun or a series 80 in the fine print. I've been patrolling Gunbroker & Gunsamerica for about two months.

    Here's the ask:

    • Does anyone have one? If so, how does it shoot?
    • Where can I find one in stock?

I know about series 80s, Gold Cups, Rail Guns, Combat Commanders, Delta Elite, Defender, etc. All good guns, just not what I want right now.

I know I'm looking at a kilobuck, which I have. And FWIW, when I use the term clone, I mean exact copy (as in, series 80 & rail guns specifically excluded).

So, can anyone put me on the trail of one? Would love to acquire this before the end of the year.

    The specimen in question:

Check with BudsGunShop.com. We just bought a Series 80 stainless (O1091) from them. Because it was manufactured in 2011, it came with the "100 years of Service" rollmark on the right slide. It's definitely a sweet addition.

The Series 70 in stainless is exactly what I'll be going for next. I'll be purchasing through Buds, whether they have to order it or not.

I did a Google shopping search for (O1070A1CS) and nobody seems to have it. Everyone is Call For Availability. I would have a local shop order it, or call Buds and I'm sure they can get it in!

Good luck. Post pics when you get it!

try calling classic pistol, tanners or surplus city guns since all three shops have a good selection of new/used 1911's.

Sorry for the delay, had some ugly business to take care of. Here are photos of my (new) Colt 1911A1 series 70 stainless, with the factory preservative still on it:

    --
Left and right profile. Came with two magazines, a lock & rosewood grips.

    --
Standard ejection port profile, note polished sides but bead blasted top and bottom surfaces. A BM42 in the photo seems to be the recent photo convention, so here's mine.

    --
Note slightly larger and higher sights than W.W.II era M1911A1s. 2011 O1070A1CS (left), 1943 US&S (right).

    --

Slide stop cutout is slightly more rounded with the O1070A1CS. See circled areas for comparison.

Saw a few at shows. Was kinda confused because I didn't remember them making a stainless version back in the 70s.

You're right. Colt didn't make the 1911A1 in stainless in the 1970s. The O1070A1CS is a series 70 re-make from Colt's custom shop, starting sometime after approximately 2004.

If you don't mind, what show did you see them, and what were the sellers asking for them?
