What should a good 1911 Cost?
What should a good 1911 Cost? I hear a lot gripping and moaning over the price of certain 1911s. I ask what should a decent 1911 cost us. I usually pay around $650 - $800 for the last two 1911s that I bought the others were bought years ago and cost around $380 - $600. For some reason I will pay more for a 100 yr. old design gun. I usually will pay about $350 used - $550 new for my favorites 92s/96s and Glocks but I usually bark at paying $650-$1000 for a Sig or HK (which I really like but don't own except gas air soft) but for the S&W E series I thought it was a bargain. Whats wrong with Me or US?
I still like my E series Smith and still think the world of it, and I've yet to send it through it paces.
But even today you hear that the Dan Wesson new for $1400 is a real bargain and so is a used Wilson or Les Baer USED.
What makes this so? In light of my new insight I still like my E series Smith. Does it have something with being an American???

I consider a Rock Island Armory a good 1911. So cost (since mine was used and isn't accurate) is about $400.

Re: What should a good 1911 Cost?
Well, I have no interest in .45, but I love the design of the gun, so I am looking at .40S&W guns in the 1911 design. There seems to be very few of them, Para and STI being the only 2 I can remember off the top of my head.
The Para is around $900 new online, and the STIs start at $2000. I won't pay over a grand for a pistol. Most of the time I won't even look at them if they are over $600.
Obviously, the answer is completely subjective. For me, anything over a grand for a pistol is you paying for the name etched on the slide. Sure, they are really nice guns, but for the price some people pay for one 1911, I can buy a bunch of really nice Walthers, or Sigs, or whatever.

Lol, I think mine is pretty good, and accurate enough for me.
It depends what you're going to get out of it I suppose. The finish on the RIA guns isn't great, but it's held up SO much better than I thought it would. It seems to be impervious to rust (at least so far) and I don't exactly baby it. It does pick up a good bit of holster wear, but I also practice presentations pretty much everyday, so I don't know how much that would affect other users.Selling off a a sizeable Spyderco collection here

I paid $300 for my used Taurus 1911. It ran flawlessly. It's clean and tight. I'm thrilled with it.

Re: What should a good 1911 Cost?
I've been thinking about getting a 1911 lately, although I want one in 9mm & unfortunately it seems the reasonably priced ones are just plain and ugly.
I love the "look" of this gun.

Re: What should a good 1911 Cost?
The answer's totally subjective. It will cost however much you are willing to pay for what features you want. For me, that was a fairly expensive gun. For others with different expectations, what I paid for my 1911 would probably be ridiculous. So, first thing, you've got to ask yourself: what is "good" to you? Whatever those criteria are, match those with guns that meet them, and then look at the price. That's how much a good 1911 will cost you.
That's a pretty unsatisfactory answer, though, so I'll fill in some more for you.
By good, I'm guessing you mean fairly reliable, accurate, feeds many types of ammo well, and has a fairly good trigger. A good warranty from a good company would be nice as well. For this? Probably between $400-$1000.
I recommend a RIA Tactical 1911, a Ruger SR1911 (my personal choice), or a S&W 1911. I'd avoid Kimber at all costs.Slaves don't own arms; free men do.
