Model 19 is a K-frame revolver a bit smaller in size (S&W describes the K Frame as a medium size it is the same size frame used for Model 10, or K38 Masterpiece, just to name a couple. The N-frame of the Highway Patrolman (Model 28) is S&W large frame as used for the original .357 Magnum (which became the Model 27). The same frame is also used for Model 25 (.45 Colt) and Model 29 (.44 Magnum).

The Model 28 Highway Patrolman was offered as a "low price" option to the Model 27. They are essentially the same in quality and fit but the M28 didn't have as much "polish". It was a workmanlike revolver aimed specifically at the Police market.

They are a fine revolver, but as with any used gun purchase check it over carefully. Don't be afraid to bring your feeler gauges with you and check gap and end-shake and everything else that is possible before you complete the purchase.

For my own part. I'd like to have one in 4" for IDPA and one in 6" for PPC. (Add that to the dream on category!)
