Kimber Solo

Ok, so this sure is a purdy pistol, and I would definitly consider one, but
$ 1,400+ ....... really ! Is it just me or are people insane to pay this for the solo ? Can't wait to hear some feedback on them now that they are starting to become somewhat available! Maybe $650 w/o the CT ?????

Flame on, but - not entirely sure how kimber gained such a market share here with the solo - to me its kinda like seeing which one of your buddies wants to be the "first" to test fire the $50 jennings you took in a trade, and then charging them to do it.


But hey, they're selling. Can't argue with that. For that philosophy of use, I'd buy a kahr or if I absolutely required a thumb safety, wait for the Sig P938. IMO, money better spent.

$1400 is rediculous.. wait, no.. $900 for a better built R9 is rediculous... $1400 is just - $400 worth of gun, and $1000 worth of effective marketing.

My interest in the Solo vanished when I read a review that stated Kimber say it needs new springs every thousand rounds and only digests certain rounds.
I'll stick to a cheap sub-compact plastic fantastic that will shoot whatever I want it to and for many thousands more before it wants parts.....and for a LOT less money.

Yep, I was all about the Solo until the above and all of the reliability issues. Instead, I picked up a Ruger sr40c for <400 and have enough left for like a million rounds of ammo.

My advice, buy the Kahr PM9 (Classic Pistol has one with a safety if you really need one) and spend the other $800 on ammo, spare mags, and a holster or two.

I was in Grice Gun Shop several months ago when they got their "not for sale" dealer sample of the Solo, allegedly the "first one shipped from Kimber to any dealer" according to Rick Byerly (sp?) Grice store manager.

It was missing a grip screw, and shipped without a magazine.

I mentioned to Rick that maybe it was just me, but rushing an incomplete pistol to a dealer/distributor sent me the wrong message, and a $1400 price point was yet again simply paying more for the Kimber name than for content. No thank you, Kimber.

I vote Ruger LC9, with the balance of the $$$ towards a crap ton of 9mm ammo.

I agree. After reading I don't know how many reviews where it was repeated over and over that Kimber said their gun only feeds certain rounds, I just had to laugh.

Well, our pistol is special. It won't take those kind of rounds.

Aren't you special. My PPS feeds anything I give it, and I don't have to replace springs every time I go to the range.

I'm biased anyway. I've been to a couple of classes where a guy with a Kimber was next to me on the line, and both of those guns couldn't make it through an entire magazine without a problem. And the one Kimber I handled at a dealer was built so awesomely tight that the slide simply refused to travel back far enough to engage the lock. How does something like that make it past QC?
