Prosecutors have dropped the gun charges that were filed against a Florida activist after she was accused of pulling two guns on a registered sex offender in Davie, Fla.

Valerie Parkhurst allegedly brandished a pistol and a shotgun during an altercation on a public street with Dale Weeks, a convicted rapist, and his girlfriend.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel sums up the case: Police had said Parkhurst threatened to kill Weeks and his girlfriend, Maria Rodriguez, when the couple drove onto a street where Parkhurst was handing out sex offender warning fliers. The street was a couple of miles from Weeks' home, where Parkhurst had passed out fliers about him earlier and had words with Rodriguez. During the confrontation in the 4600 block of Southwest 66th Avenue, a dead-end street, Parkhurst said she thought the couple was following her and asked them to back up. The couple, who told police they were heading to a store and made a wrong turn, said they had trouble backing up.

The Sun-Sentinel quotes from a prosecution memo that says Parkhurst acted in self-defense and notes that there's "no likelihood of conviction" given the facts in the case.

Weeks has said his girlfriend was too scared to drive away after Parkhurst pointed a 9 mm Glock at their vehicle. "It's a vigilante-style move," he told The Bradenton Herald. "She has no right to blow me away."

Well im glad they dropped the charges. Good thing this woman was armed or the story may have turned out differently. Kinda funny that they say she was accuded of "pulling two guns", makes it sound like she had a gun in each hand wild west style.

Its hard to belive that the SO and his GF tryed to use the "we made a wrong turn and had trouble backing up". Right just like you didnt commit the crime that made you a SO in the first place.
