a buddy of mine and i were talking about this subject not too long ago and came up with the perfect survival weapon to be a .22lr rifle, he has a 10/22 and i have a Remy tube fed semi and a Marlin synthetic tube fed bolt action model 25 T i believe,

there cheap to buy cheap to get ammo for and light weight and in a survival application can put down deer size game with proper shot placement ....

get a 22 rifle a brick of ammo and hide that thing ina wall or something for just in case..

If I havent eaten in 6days, and I see a deer i want a helluva lot more gun than a 22 to take him down. could it? yes but more than likley the deer is gonna run off(not gonna be a blod trail to follow there) or laugh at u and walk away. Not to mention having to defend yourself with one. 22's are fun,but not exactly what i'd put my life in the hands of for any situation

During the Depression my grandfather and great uncles kept their family in poached venision with .22 rifles. My great uncle Jack shot 101 deer in one summer (sharing the meat with others who were in need) with 99 of them shot between the the eyes with a .22 rifle.
They'll do just fine for that type of use.

FWIW, if I were that desperate I'd want to make the most of any shot I got at any animal. That means a head shot regardless of caliber.

I've given this a lot of thought, and there is no perfect choice, and come up with a bolt action .223.
Small enough for small and medium game and plenty of reach for "social work" if necessary. Ammo is pretty cheap and available as well.

That's the best you could come up with in 10.5 months?

If you're going .223 may as well be a AR. Accurate enough for game and bettor for you 'social' work.

    AR-15, plnety of ammo.

    M-6 Scout Survival Rifle (.22, .410)

AK-47 on the way (kit sitting next to me going to be built soon).
