Re: Illuminated dot reticle for HD shotgun?
A couple recommendations:
Skip the M3X unless you just have one sitting around. The incandescent bulb and locking system are inferior to the LED based TLR-1 (don't get the "s" model), which is about the same price. That being said, I find the toggle switch on those types of WML's are too easy to bump and catch on things, causing negligent discharges of your white light. I personally prefer a quality tube-style light with a single function, momentary-only tailcap (something like a surefire G2[X] LED) in an offset mount that i can activate with my thumb.
If you want a non-magnified red dot optic for a home defense longarm, your choices really boils down to Aimpoint and Aimpoint. Bargain priced red dots are not suitable for defensive firearms. The EOTech is also a quality optic of this type, and I even prefer the EOTech reticle by a hair. The Aimpoint, unlike the EOTech however, can be left on for years at a time. That means when you grab your longarm it's ready to go right then and there. Get the model with the largest MOA dot you can find.
If an Aimpoint is out of your budget, XS probably makes a big dot front sight for your shotgun, which I find to be just as quick and doesn't require batteries.

Re: Illuminated dot reticle for HD shotgun?
yo bro, thanks alot for that Streamlight TLR-1 recommendation, that's actually the brand of light i wanted but i completely forgot the name, i kept thinking of "surefire" but when i looked it up it wasnt the right one. definitely gonna invest in that one.
as for the optic, it's a shotgun, so i'm really not using it for much long distance aiming, just to be able to pull up and lock on accurately within a 5-10 yd area as it's for home defense. i feel it would be a bit easier and quicker to lock right on with a single red dot. i'll check the brands u listed though, definitely not getting an eotech however. i know they're the best but not for a shotgun for home defense. i'll save that for my RRA Tactical Operator2

That's why my suggestion was for an aimpoint with the largest MOA dot you can find or big dots. Those options just give you a large, highly visible dot that you can just put on target and do work.

How bout any of the RMR style sights (burris fastfire, luepold deltapoint, and of course the Triji RMR, maybe another one or two I'm forgetting)
Could be worth looking at. OMMVand to the dust you shall return

Deltapoint. I used one briefly and all I can say is a RDS on a shotgun is the way to go. Slug shots on steel at 200 yards in failing light, while bent over under cover, easy as cake.

Re: Illuminated dot reticle for HD shotgun?
I have a Burris speed bead on my Benelli M1 Super 90 with 26" barrel and 10 shot mag tube. It perfectly co-witnesses with the factory ghost ring sights and is extremely light and low profile.
If there is a better, faster red dot sight for a shotgun, i have yet to see it. The Speed bead is flat out awesome.
