OP this happened to you because the NJ AG's Office has been putting significant pressure, via bold faced lies and threats that are unenforceable, at the behest of the various Anti Gun Groups and Legislators in NJ on PA based businesses that deal in firearms and related items that are considered to be " close " to the PA/NJ Border. Didnt you know that NJ's criminal shooting and gun use problem is all the fault of PA and other States that actually respect the Second Amendment ?? Just like Mexico's gun problem is the fault of US Gun Dealers and " lax " laws.

I'm an American - when I'm in another state with different laws than mine, I can do whatever everyone else in that state does! No one stops and questions me.

While visiting another state I can
    • carry a firearm,
    • ride a motorcycle without a helmet,
    • pump my own fuel,
    • stick high capacity magazines in my rifle,
    • play with fireworks,
    • carry around hollow point bullets,
    • Hunt with a rifle/semi auto/ revolver,
    • not wear my seatbelt,
    • drive 75 on the interstate,
    • talk on my phone while I'm driving, etc.

No one stops 18 year old's that live in New Jersey from going to Pennsylvania and buying tobacco products, when the minimum age in New Jersey is 19.

How is this any different? I'm of age to buy ammunition in Pennsylvania, it doesn't matter where I live, its the state that I'm in is what my point is.

I think the problem you are running into is that an FFL can only sell firearms or ammunition to the resident of another state based on the laws of the "resident" state! It is hard enough for Pa. gun dealers to keep track of Pa. state and federal laws with out having to learn all the laws of Ohio,Maryland,New York,New Jersey ect.

There was a time long ago when someone would ask to purchase HP ammo and my answer was What flavor would you like?

Then with a twist I get someone say I want to buy HP and I live in New Jersey! My answer was sorry charley but now I kow you live in New Jersey and I refuse to keep the New Jersey records on HP buyers so no sale!

Keep all your ID's with you at all times, simple as that. My drivers license, PA LTCF is all in my wallet. If I forget my wallet I forget everything. If I have my wallet I have everything. Simple

As for not spending your money there every again. Seriously people... The business is just doing their job. If they caught you this time with out your proper ID and not the last time so be it. A lot of employees aren't trained properly and for the most part don't care if they check or not. It's called being lazy. So they caught you this time, oh well.

not quite right. first off you dont need an ffl to sell ammo. with few exceptions an ammo dealer is only bound by the laws of the state that he is operating in or if he is shipping to another state he has to worry about whether that product is legal in that destination. however in my humble and worthless opinion the latter really should not even be on the dealers plate as the person doing the importing needs to know what can be imported.

one of two things happened here. either the guy at dicks decided to make up his own rules or dicks is playing footsie with the state of new jersey because they dont want to be implicated in the great new jersey ammo smuggling ring.

is that some strange pennsylvania law?

Personally I always find it amusing that Dicks always thinks I'm someone one from NJ trying to bring in large quanities of ammo.

That said I've been finding the real use of dicks from now own is just using their deals at Walmart, this isn't a view on their policies, Walmart is just closer.

I hope they restock by Black Friday.

Dick's is just playing to the pressure NJ is implementing in the name of safety. I would hope that if enough of us voice our opinion of the situation they might realize their gun&ammo business is going to be affected when we use our cash as leverage. I make sure the guy at the ammo counter who IDs me knows of my displeasure of the action. I do so nicely, it's not his policy but it's his job to follow policy. I then have to do the same to the checkout clerk who IDs me again. And so far, just once, I have spoken to the store manager. I say that we who use Dick's express our thoughts each and every time and express it to the manager. We let them know we are opposed to Dick's policy and our money will begin going to Wal-Mart, online sales and regular shops. That's my new policy.
