Re: Why the extra ammo?
Why even carry a firearm in the first place? You're probably never going to need it.
You carry spare mags for the same reason you carry a firearm. Someday, somwhere, you may need it. That's good enough reason for me.

Re: Why the extra ammo?
I carry extra ammo because my XD only holds 9+1 and I want as many "options" on me as comfortably possible.
I agree that carrying a couple spare mags on the "weak" side "levels" out my belt from being one-sided. I also concur with the "what if" Ideals. It's nice to have and not need...

Re: Why the extra ammo?
accuracy by volume requires sufficient volume
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: Why the extra ammo?
I dont carry a spare mag.
The chances of me needing more than my G17 holds are slimmer by a wide margin than the chance that I'll need it at all.
I believe that the sort of gun issues a CCW holder will need to solve will likely require significantly less ammo than my gun already holds, and likely significantly more fighting than shooting.
I prefer a very low carry profile. This is a priority.
My gun is reliable.
The mags I use for carry are just for carry, they have been tested and get replaced and cycled into my "use mags" annually.
I do understand that for many an extra mag carries very little cost in terms of their comfort and carry profile so its a "why not? " sort of thing. Im not bashing that, Ive simply made other choices.
If I find a comfortable and concealable spare mag carry option that doesnt add much to what I already carry I will gladly add one on. Its just not my priority.

Re: Why the extra ammo?
I think you need to take a step back and think about what you wrote here. You're right, 2 center mass, 1 in the head. Now, how confident are you that you'll pull that off on a moving target under an extreme stress situation?
Funny thing about paper targets at the range, they don't really move a whole lot. Now think about all the times we've heard about the highly trained police officers shooting 60 rounds and hitting less than 10 times.Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Better to have it and not needing it, then to need it and not have it!!!!!
