This may take significantly more ammunition than you think, especially if your opponent is under the influence of drugs (adrenaline counts) or particularly determined.

    3) As Justin and signmaker said, criminals are smart, or at least wise (remember, crime is their job) and travel in groups. You should always be prepared for secondary engagements.

    4) With a fully loaded Glock 19 on my hip, 2 spare magazines on the other side provides better balance on the belt. It's simply more comfortable.

I hope that clears thing up better than "you never know" or "the only time you can have too much ammo is when you are drowning or on fire".

Well, I'm glad you asked. I try to have good reasons for most things I do.

This question is like asking, why do you dress in layers when going on a hike? I mean you most likely arent going to need all that clothing, but you bring it just in case so in the event that something unexpected happens you are comfortable.

I carry a plastic gun with a 14 round mag. The gun is very lightweight but the full mag is heavy. I put another 14 rd mag in the pocket opposite the holster so I don't walk in circles. It kinda balances me out...

    Couple things. .

Wouldn't you want to prepared, just in case?

God forbid you're running to engage the threat, and you hit the mag release, and first mag goes byebye?

What if there are multiple threats to engage?

Not to sound cliche, but think of it as a combat situation.

i firmly believe the only stupid question is the one not asked...

we do not always understand why people do what they do so when an individual such as myself has the opportunity to ask, then i do so for better understand and with such is the current case in point of which i've learned something and or a different outlook upon the said situation...

so from hence forth, i will atleast keep a spare mag in my vehicle...

    thanx

This is especially for the people that have never been to a gun match. Go to an IDPA match, which tries to simulate real life situations.

Compete in it.. And your first time out there, I want to see you count your rounds and not be surprised or caught off guard when the gun is at slide lock and you still try and take that imaginary last shot. I see it happen a lot.

I've read from different sources that they recommend you keep firing at a life threatening target until they are no longer a threat. I've read about people in SD situations in which they had no idea that they fired as many times as they did, or unloaded the gun on a bad guy.

In a SD situation, I don't think you'll be so well prepared that you plan out your mag changes. Prob why IDPA normally shoots to slide lock before a reload.

I have read that after the immediate threats are cleared, you should top off. Just in case.

There was a thread about being prepared for a Flash mob attacking at you. That is why you carry a 33rd mag in your man purse, LoL..

Extra mags are like fire extinguishers. Its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
