Trouble loading my Bushmaster Carbon 15
Everytime I try putting the magazine in, it slides down a little bit and doesnt lock. I have to pull the handle thing back to open up the chamber and then the magazine will lock and when i release the handle thing, it then chambers a round. That happens when I use the factory mag or a ProMag, however, I just picked up 2 PMAGS and they load perfectly. So is it something I'm doing wrong? Also I can't remember what that pull slide handle thing is called so forgive me.

I just wanted to ask a question that is a bit important to giving you a good answer. Are you talking about trying to insert loaded magazines into the rifle? Are these magazines that are topped off completely to the top, as in 20 rounds in a 20 rounder, and 30 rounds in a 30 rounder?

Re: Trouble loading my Bushmaster Carbon 15
The reason tomcat is asking is because to seat reliably with the bolt closed, AR magazines should be downloaded by 2, meaning 28rds in a 30rd magazine, or 18/20. Also, really give the mags a good slap on the bottom when you seat them, then tug down to make sure they are locked in.
That is probably your issue.Last edited by vicious; November 14th, 2011 at 03:26 AM.

Oh ok, thanks. Yeah, I been loading them to capacity...30rds. I'll take 2 out and see how that goes. I like loading them to the max for some odd reason, there's so many different opinions on whether that is good to do or not, or causes stress of the spring but that's a whole different thread.

Loading to capacity doesn't hurt anything, it just makes the magazine a pain in the ass to seat. You won't miss the last two rounds.

Honestly I think your real problem is that you have a Carbon 15.
Have you fired it much? The one I have handled has been nothing but pain and heartache for my friend.
Not trying to be a doucher, if the weapon has worked well for you and you like it disregard this.

Re: Trouble loading my Bushmaster Carbon 15
easy fix, have the bolt open when you install mag. never had the above problem using this method.

Easy fix, slap that mo-fo in there. You won't hurt the magazine or the rifle. You my hurt your hand and if so, then proceed to hit the magazine in with your purse. They don't like to seat gingerly when full to capacity, not even in my Vltor/Noveske rifle. Just man up and give it a good pop with your palm.
