    Default light .308 target load

I hav been reloading .45ACP for about a year or so, and just picked up a Browning BLR at the gun show today, so I think it is time to try out rifle reloading.

I'm looking for a good, light, accurate target load; any pet loads out there?

Look in the Speer manual. Mine has reduced loads (1800 to 2100 fps) for the 100 gr HP in .270 among others. I think it uses SR4759 but don't quote me, I don't have it here at work.

I'll second that, Check the speer manual they list reduced loads using several powders ie: 4759, 5744, and 4198 Or you could go with cast bullets and the options are about endless If you need some data from the speer manual PM me

What is your barrel length, twist rate, and what is the maximum range you intend to shoot?

I can make more appropriate suggestions if you post the case capacity of a case fired from your chamber. Weigh an empty fired case, fill it with water until it has a crown, weigh it, then post the difference. This will help me suggest a charge weight.

Do you have a preference for any locally available components, powder, primer, or projectiles?

"X is what percentage of Y?" Divide the first number by the second, multiply the answer by 100. Add a percent sign. Think.

The barrel is 20", and has 1:12 twist of rate.
The maximum target range will be 100 yards.

I'm not dead set on any particular compontent (this is my first time reloading rilfe), but when I reload pistol, I tend to stick to Winchester for both powder and primer.

I can't give you case capacity yet, because I only picked up the gun yesterday at the gun show. I know I won't be able to shoot it next weekend because I have work obligations both days, but I hope to get to Cabela's over Thanksgiving, and would like to have some ideas of what works, so I can pick up the dies, powder, primers, bullets, and whatever other reloading odds and ends I'll need to get started (loading blocks, case trimmer...).

Thanks; that is the type of thing I was looking for!

I know with loading .45 that some powders are more accurate, some are softer shooting, some work better with higher velocity loads.... This is what I need to find out for rifle powders.
