Police: Man loading ladder confronted by gunman outside Summit store
    Erie Times-News

A man who was loading a ladder outside a Peach Street home-improvement store told state police he was robbed by a man who forced him to withdraw cash from a nearby bank Tuesday morning.

Police said the incident was reported at about 8:35 a.m., when a man in his mid-60s told troopers that he was loading a ladder he had just purchased at the Peach Street Home Depot store when a gunman confronted him in the parking lot.

The victim, who was not named, said the robber told the victim that he needed to take the robber to the bank and withdraw $200.

The man complied, driving the robber to a nearby bank, where he withdrew money from its ATM, state police spokesman Sgt. Mark Zaleski said.

The victim then dropped the robber off at a nearby restaurant before driving to a fast-food restaurant and calling police, Zaleski said.

The incident was reported at about 8:35 a.m. Police will check the bank's surveillance system as part of the ongoing investigation, Zaleski said.

State police described the alleged robber only as a white male who was 6 feet tall. Dispatch reports from other police agencies described the robber as 20 to 25 years old and wearing jeans and a hoodie.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call state police at 898-1641.
