    Default AKs get hot

As most of us know they can get very hot up front, like burn yourself pretty good hot. So my question is, have any of you used or heard of exaust heat wrap/header tape used on the gas tube to try and turn down the heat a little bit on their AK
and to the dust you shall return

thats the thing about an ak and the reason i prefer it to an ar. it cant be improved upon.

also i think the dissipation of heat away from the operating system is a good thing and such tape may keep it in.

Can't say I thought of header wrap, but given the cheap availability of furniture I have given a thought to an extra air-hole or two in the HGs. You can get these bad boys sizzling in no time.

I run a vertical fore grip and some magpul rail covers. Keeps the hand isolated from the heat. Some people prefer the classic look, but I'll take ugly and practical.

If you're intent on keeping the wood furniture on the rifle you're SOL. But, some polymer ak stock sets are available with a steel heat shield.

its an AK, just piss on it haha.. seriously tho i have no come across and heatsheilds for the barrel. I also use a vertical foregrip and poly covers that helps a lil but not sure there are any quick (header wrap) fixes. maybe some heat sinks welded to the barrel haha

THe Chinese came up with an ingenious solution years ago, next time you see a MAK-90 look at the barrel closely, you'll notice it has a knurled or tiny fin-cooled barrel, the tiny fins increased the surface cooling area by about 200% without having to add anything to the gun.

dont laugh..... i cut out a piece from an aluminum beer can and stuffed it inside of the lower front handgaurd, it helps dissipate some heat, but hey its better then nothing!
