    Good looking rifle.

Don't worry about the "bubba" part. There are a bazillion (that's a real number I just made up) Mosins out there. Modifying yours will not leave a gigantic hole in history.

Well I'll compare it to my Ruger gunsite Scout:

    • They both have a barrel length of 16.5"
    • They both have muzzle brakes
    • They both use 5 and 10 round magazines
    • They both have bi-pods
    • They both have slings
    • They both shoot about 2" groups at 100yds with factory ammo.
    • They are both about the same overall length and weight

Things my Mosin has the Ruger don't
    • An adjustable Timney featherweight trigger
    • An adjustable stock for LOP & cheek rest

Cost of Factory ammo for the Ruger 308 = 40 cents per round
Cost of ammo for the Mosin 7.62x54r = 20 cents per round

Ruger cost = $1000.00 as pictured
Mosin cost = $450.00 as pictured

New here. Hi all. This thread was a very enjoyable read, thanks all who participated.

I have an '03 Springfield that my grandpa left me. I cut the barrel down to 16.5" and carved a buck in the stock. It's an ok hunting rifle now.

Just kidding, I do have a Mosin that I cut and messed with though. If it's yours do what you want with it. Some people can be sensitive to criticism and advice, myself included. Good luck to you collectors and bubbas alike. As long as you don't throw them away or give them to the feds.

I can see it. Hope you guys can too. I cut down the fore end of the stock and baked a ton of cosmo out of it, then refinished it. The barrel was cut down and recrowned by myself with hand tools. I made new ghost ring sights, using the original front sight. I polished the the trigger parts and replaced the firing pin spring. Gun shoots well and is more accurate than I am.
