I shot pellet rifles in the basement all the time back home. I never bothered with a ventilation system, though I would imagine some of the lead from the pellets aersolizes. I never had any problems with it and I would put down about 500 pellets a week.

Backstops for pellet guns are easy enough. Something hard to catch them, with something soft in front to keep any possible ricochets from happening. I used an old table and a blanket and it worked well. You could also use a metal plate; the pellet just smashes and falls. I stopped doing that for fear of the lead in the air. Targets were about 15 yards away. Never tried it with airsoft, though id imagine it'd work really well. Give it a shot and let us know.
