looking for 10/22 front sight and recoil spring recommendations

bought a used 10/22 that dates back to 1978 (the gun is in overall great shape!) and need to replace the front sight that is messed up and replace the tired recoil spring. What do you guys recommend as a front sight replacement that is good for shooting out to at least 50 yards and a recoil spring that'll help out the overall action of the gun?

also, is there any product out there to make the magazine release look like the magazine releases on the modern 10/22s? The magazine release on my model 1978 sits flush in front of the magazine and I'm not crazy about that.

I would recommend replacing both the front and back sights with a set of Tech Sights. I have them on my 10/22 and my Marlin model 60 and the difference is astounding. They're easy to install and once sighted in the gun will shoot consistent tight groups.

I cannot recommend these any higher.

For a mag release, check out the TacSol Extended Mag Release. It's nicer and easier to operate than most other extended releases for the 10/22. I was going to get one for mine, but opted for one I found on Midway USA. After trying the TacSol I knew I should have bought it instead.

+1 for Tech Sights. They are rear peep, front post like an AR-15. Had them on my Appleseed rig.

they're very ugly looking, imho (sorry, I like a good looking gun too, lol). I like the mag releases on the modern 10/22's...that a number of manufacturers make, I'm sure.

I was in the same camp as you. My 10/22 is in an M1 Carbine stock. I didn't want an odd looking mag release to ruin the overall aesthetics, so that's why I went with an extended one similar to what's on the new 10/22s. Even though the TacSol looks weird, it functions better than the extended one I have so my plan is to buy one sometime down the road.

I think the tacsol would probably be better served if you're shooting speed competitions than shooting small game or going for overall accuracy. of course this is my own opinion and people are free to do what they want with their guns..

I'll definitely research it some more, that's for sure. and like you, I might eventually pick one up to see how it does!
