MAS 36 and MAS 49
My Aunt's husband passed a few months back, and recently my Aunt contacted me to help her catalog his firearm collection so she can sell a majority of it.
Well for my help she gifted me a few guns of my choice from the collection.
Long story short I ended up with a MAS 36 and MAS 49. Haven't shot either yet but both are still chambered in 7.5MAS.
Two questions, one for each gun.
MAS 36 question: The right "feed ramp" looks very abrupt and seems like it would cause significant feeding issues with anything other than a Thor like hammering on the bolt. I mean from leading edge, to top of the ramp is about 1/3 the distance of the left hand feed ramp, and it seems like it has a fold/lip in the material that would hinder feeding. Anyone else have this issue? Anyone else have a MAS36, hah ha ha?
MAS 49 question: Have been reading about the MAS 49's slamfire problem and one thing that was suggested on several websites was the machine down a certain section of the firing pin to remove weight. However I do not have a lathe and cannot find a diagram of WHICH section of the pin to machine down. Anyone have anything to offer on either the slamfire issue or the lightening of the bolt?
And yes I will post pictures later, calm down

Re: MAS 36 and MAS 49
I am looking at my 36 now and the right "feed ramp" looks fine.
As for the 49; I have shot mine many times with no slam fire issues. Shoot it first and see if there is a problem before trying to "fix' it.

Re: MAS 36 and MAS 49
On the 49, what I forgot to say is a friend could do the machining for me but only this weekend before he is heading out of town for a few months. And I will not have time to shoot it before he leaves.
A new pin is not expensive, machinists are.
I will try again to get a picture of the 36 issue. Made some dud rounds to try cycling and as I suspected, you have to bludgeon any rounds that feed from the right. (1,3 and 5)This space for rent.... to Conservatives.

My 36 feeds smoothly from either side. Sounds like something is wrong with yours.

I don't know anything about French rifles but wouldn't your Aunt's husband be your Uncle?
