    Default 1911 Nose Dive

OK 1911 Gurus, I need your words of wisdom. I have a RIA 1911 in 9MM and when I load the mags full, the first 2 or 3 rounds out of the magazine will nose dive into the feed ramp. I've already tried another magazine, and success did not follow. Words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated, anyone in the area of 17527, I will gladly meet up with you in person if you want to try to duplicate it yourself. It happens when I try to chamber a round, and at the range while firing to both myself and a LEO friend of mine who came along. If you tap the mag from the bottom, it will clear itself, but obviously, this is not ideal. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you need a magazine with hybridized feed lips. If you are already running one, then best of luck to you.

What type ammo? FMJ or JHP? I have a RIA in 45 and JHP nose dive with a full mag. Seven rounds is ok in my Kimber mag. But not the factory supplied mag. You said you try other mags what type? Heard a lot of good things with RIA's and Wilson combat mags.

Load the mag completely and leave it for a day or two and then try loading the weapon again. Sometimes the mag. spring is new and just needs to be softened up a bit.

Did you try a Chip McCormick mag?
Sounds like a mag issue to me,
    OR
It's the gun's or the slides feed ramp having issues and you need to send it back.

Fair warning if you're going to order from Tripp... their house burnt down in some Texas wildfires, and they are just getting their shipping and such back in gear. So you might see a couple day delay.

Which sucks ass, both because they lost their house (can you even imagine?) and because I don't have some sweet ass Tripp magazines for the old lady's 9mm.

Also, I have a 1911 in 45 that does this nosediving nonsense. Haven't had time to figure it out, but I know for a fact it won't chamber anything with a flat nose (think hydra-shoks) reliably. Likely due to being nickel plated and the feed ramp needing tended to.
It has to start someplace... It has to start sometime...

I have an RIA 1911 in .45, and it has never nosedived on me. However, I have heard a lot of reports that there are certain JHP's it simply will not eat without some tuning.

This is with FMJ rounds.....I don't even want to think about JHPs. The good news is, after sitting in the safe for a couple of months because it was a bad gun, it now feeds fine. It probably helped that I left both mags loaded. Stand by for a range report. And thanks for all your help so far.
