    Default gen3 or gen4 glock

Can someone tell me the difference between the gen3 and gen4 Glock?
Does Glock still make both of them?
    Thanks.

Grip texture, additional backstraps, and redesigned guide rod...

Both Gen 3 and 4 are still available...

    Glock still makes them both...

For some reason Glock decided to change up some parts from the reliable, proven, and tested generation 3.

The Glock 4 RSA were recalled and will replace them for free with issues dealing with failure to eject and also recalled their ejector spring, due to shells coming back and hitting people in the face...

The RSA are a new design to even further reduce recoil, I think this is were Glock jumped the "gun" and tried to fix something that did not need to be fixed.

This takes some wait time and shipping cost to Glock to cover the exchanges.

If you're in the market my vote is go for a 3rd Gen.

I have a G19 Gen 3 and its dead nuts reliable..

The RSA was only a small part of the problem. The real issue is the extractor and ejector. Not only are the GEN4 guns screwed up, the latest GEN3 guns are as well. They also got rid of Tennifer. At the rate they're going, Glock is going to screw themselves out of business in an attempt to save pennies.

Note: This only seems to be a problem with the 9mm models.

Was not aware that these changes are introduced on the newer Gen3 models?

    Do you know production dates?

Are you sure they got rid of the Tenifer coating? I can see it clearly still listed on their website at http://www.glock.com/english/pistols_intro.htm.

    TENIFER
Unique GLOCK hi-tech surface refinement for barrel and slide. Apart from optimum corrosion protection and anti-reflective finish, a degree of hardness of 64 HRC - close to that of a diamond - is achieved.

From everything I've read and heard the Tennifer treatment is still on the Glocks steel parts. They changed the finish though, it is now sort of a grayish looking PVD coating.(which I think looks like shit) Everyone who talks to Glock in Smyrna seems to get a different story on the deal. The Tennifer is NOT the guns final black/gray finish.

There have also been changes to the trigger assembly. The new trigger assemblies have a dot on them by the firing pin safety plunger doohiggy. Most don't like the new dot trigger assembly and they say the break and overall trigger feel is worse than the older Gen 3. I won't buy a Gen4 Glock myself I'd rather have a NOS or used Gen3 made prior to the beginning of 2011. The 9mm (G19 and G17) are the worst but some .40s had issues.

I've said before but I'll say it again. Glock just should have put the Gen4 replaceable backstraps and ambi mag release on all Gen 3 internals and not touched anything else.

I was considering purchasing a G19 in 9mm. Now I'm thinking that the S&W M&P9c might be a better choice. Would the S&W be a more reliable gun?

I have a Glock 22 Gen 4 I bought used about a month ago and it is great. I have put about 500 rounds (WWB) threw it and not one problem. it feels better in my hand then the gen 3, I don't use either of the backstraps.

That's your call. Just be aware that there is a chance that a G19 will have problems. However, if you do get a bad one, glock will take care of it, and cover all expenses.

The M&P is a very good gun, and will almost certainly be 100 percent out of the box.
