Re: Self Defense Training
Are you looking for a class or private training? These are some good options.

Re: Self Defense Training
As with anything, it can be fast, cheap, and good, but you can only pick two of those.
What do you want to learn and what is your budget?

Re: Self Defense Training
My wife and I have also been looking for a self defense course close to Berks. In addition to tactical stuff we also want to learn more about the legal stuff. Cost is always a consideration but I am willing to pay if the value is there. The only training we've done so far ids the NRA basic pistol course.

As far as the legal stuff goes, check with Cabela's. The Berks County Sheriff's office has a concealed carry course that they offer there that covers the legal side of the coin.

Try contacting Marti Belcastro at learn2shootsafely AT yahoo.com.
She's NRA certified and teaches at the MASA range in Muhlenburg Township. She is also secretary of the club and does all the range orientations.

Your wife might find it more comfortable learning from a female instructor.

Re: Self Defense Training
The jump from basic pistol to defensive work typically requires several hundred rounds of practice with trigger reset, reloading, and malfunction clearance to thre point where you can "focus" on the threat and movement.
NRA does have a curriculum escalation through personal protection in the home to personal protection outside the home.
Dick Reinheimer would be a good guy to look up (dickrr@verizon.net) as he teaches civi, but also LE Defensive Pistol schools.
Classic Pistol also has a couple of trainers available for private and group lessons, depending on your needs.
