    Default powder choices for .243win

I currently am using H4350 and today I tried H414 (don't like it).
What powders do you 243 loaders like?
If it matters I load an 85gr BTHP Sierra with Rem. primers and an OAL of 2.53 and put a good crimp on it with a factory Lee crimp die.
The H414 grouped nicely but hit a little high; about an inch @ 100yds but they all touched; but I don't like the small ball powder in my powder measure.
Maybe H4895, I'm open to all suggestions, just looking for different powders to try. Accuracy is the main focus.
    Thanks

H4350 and H414... My two favorites in .243 Win. I have to say fliers go away when I use CCI or Fed mag primers w/H414, and you can have you cake and it it too (super high velocity, and cloverleafs). What measure are you having problems with?

Only one I ever tried that did not like this and even smaller ball propellant, was the Lee perfect measure. Really disappointed with it when I gave it a trial while working for a sporting goods store, and was never so glad to go back to my HD iron Uniflow. That was around 17 years ago, so maybe it has improved? I never crimp FWIW, and although I get good results with the same 85 grain bullet you are using, their 75 grain HP (#1510) really achieves serious one hole accuracy, and I have clocked them doing nearly 3500 fps.

My particular custom heavy barrel .243 does not like propellants on the faster side of the curve, plus I like a higher load density if given a choice. Many folks love H/IMR 4895, RL 15, Varget, and IMR 4064 for doing what you want, so maybe give them a try in that area of propellant "speed". On the other end, you could try the various intonations of IMR/H4831, and RL19.

I like IMR 4350 I've used it for years with good results, from 75 grain hp to 105 grain speer rn for deer with rem primers.

I use the 4350 for my deer loads pushing 100 grainers, but I like the H380 behind the little purple death pills...aka 70 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips....which hit a woodchuck like a Mack Truck BTW
It's just an old standard Win model 70 that's been glass bedded.....

Yea, it's a Lee perfect powder whatever. I'll be getting an RCBS powder measure to go along with the Rockchucker

I thought about trying the 4831 out, but the 4350 is going to be a tough nut to crack.

Since you seem to like the stick powders I would suggest IMR 4831 for 85 gr and heavier and Varget for 85 gr and lighter. Tried the H 4831 and it just didn't seem to give good results for me, but that's just me YRMV.

Love IMR 4831 where it's appropriate.

FWIW I only ever used a powder measure to get close, and then a good scale and trickler to get them exact for my handloads, at least when I load for accuracy. only used the powder measure direct on pistol loads,

Not a .243 but I used to load for a 6mm Rem besides the old standby of IMR 4350 Reloader 19 and 22 worked well for me .The RE22 seemed to work real well with the heavy 105 gr bullets and use RE19 for the lighter ones, although I never shot any of the super light bullets like the 55-60 gr. I've become a big fan of the Alliant Reloader powders in the last few years

I had good results in 243/7-08/308 with Varget.
