Default Pistol barrels: important to keep cool?

I know with rifle barrels, it's important to keep them cool if you want to get the maximum life out of the barrel. Barrels that are run hot and hard last many thousands of rounds less than ones run cool.

Does the same apply to pistol barrels? Or do the generalized characteristics of the ballistics (rifles = fast/light/.30 and under, pistols = slow/heavy/.30 and over) change these dynamics?
Slaves don't own arms; free men do.

I'm going to say a pistol barrel does not get as hot as a rifle barrel so it would wear out first by more rounds fired than from excessive heat.

You won't generate the sort of heat with a pistol that you will with a rifle. I would say that it is not a concern.
