Question regarding Hungarian AMD-65 and AKM-63
The 65 has a wire-folding stock on it, the 63 has a straight hardwood stock. Both have forward grips and no wood on the front. Is it possible to remove the wire folder and correct the receiver to take a hardwood stock? How much work would be involved in this?

Re: Question regarding Hungarian AMD-65 and AKM-63
The AMD 65 does not have a rear tang. It is flush with the rear of the receiver, and the receiver itself is cut to allow the folding operation to happen. This includes the rear trunion being specific, as well as receiver being cut.
Could you pull the rear trunion and install a solid stock trunion with a tang? No idea. I am certain you "could". But I don't know if the rivets are in the same place, for a "drop in" fit. But you're still going to have a big cut out on the right side of the gun where the folding stock used to operate. As well as in the bottom behind the pistol grip for the push release.
I don't know what your mission for dumping the side folder is. But mine locks up solid as a rock and is surprisingly comfortable. There is a guy that makes a clip on cheek piece for them too. (ok well, let's call it chin/cheek reference point) Of the side folders, the AMD is my favorite.Last edited by Asmodeus6; October 13th, 2011 at 01:09 PM.

This will give you a better cheek weld with the wire stock.

The cheekweld isn't my concern - my thing is, I've just always wanted a 63, and they seem pretty scarce.

Re: Question regarding Hungarian AMD-65 and AKM-63
You could always send it out to get the rear trunnion replaced with one that will accommodate the stock you want. I strongly recommend Rifle Dynamics for all your AK-smithing needs. Just know you'll need to wait and spend some coin to get it how you want it.

Actually, I'm kinda thinking about pulling off the forearm and seeing if it will mount on a Saiga. Hmmm...

I like the look of the AMDs, whereas I dont care for the look of a normal AK with a forward grip.

Gotcha. Was just trying to figure out if you were going for asthetics or function.
