Default Do you use reloads in your CCW?

Just curious if anyone here carries reloads in their CCW? I read in Mas Ayoob's books that it does not matter as long as you have faith in your reloads and that they are uses in a lawful manner. I have read others recommend against it for potential legal reasons (although not one of these gun rag writers can cite any specific case law where this was the case).

    What do you use?

As long as the load is listed here or is loaded with the same projectile & run at comparable velocity I really wouldn't care if it were factory loads or if I'd made it myself. Gun rags writers write with one aim in mind, to sell copy. Very little they say is worth the ink on the page.

If that's the case, Ayoob must have changed his position, because he recently wrote "that's why I recommend factory ammo only for defensive use" (Handguns 2010 Annual).

However, the case he describes in support of this position was not a defensive shooting. It was a "murder or suicide?" case, in which the defense's basllistics evidence was rejected because it relied on the defendant's own records of his loading data.

Yes, I use my own reloads. These reloads have been worked up for the firearm I carry.

I currently carry factory ammo, practice with lead reloads. Squibs can and have been found in factory ammo, so I would be confident carrying reloads that I MYSELF made only.

Hornady Critical Defense in my 9X19mm and my .380s Hornady Custom FTX in my 9mmMak (until I can find CD in Makarov).

I carry and will continue to carry factory ammo, because I prefer to live by the old adage "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" To me, the cost savings of rolling your own SD ammo isn't worth the potential costs of having to fight some dirtbag's "pain and suffering" claims
