    Default Hunting Licenses

    Hi all!

Do adults have to take the hunter's safety course in order to get their licenses? I'm 27, and ex-military with a conceal carry permit, and I feel that this would be a complete waste of time because I know not to look down the barrel of a gun..... I was at Dicks Sporting Goods, got me a remington 770, and the guy said that I should get my hunting licenses while I was there, but I always thought I needed to take a test or something. My friend also said that you only need the course for junior hunters, i'm totally confused about this.

Yes, you need to take the class if you've never done so.

It not only a requirement but it's wise thing to do. It's much more than "hey dummy don't look down the barrel".
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.

I thought current and ex military with a military ID didnt have to take a safety course? Its still a good idea since the course covers alot more than jusr firearm safety.

    Sec. 2704. Eligibility for license.

The provisions of this subsection shall not apply to a person who presents:
    (1) Evidence of service in the armed forces of the United States or in the United States Coast Guard and discharge or separation under honorable conditions within six months of the date of application.
    (2) Evidence that the person is currently serving in the armed forces of the United States or in the United States Coast Guard.
    (c) Furtaker's certificate of training.--No resident or nonresident furtaker's license shall be issued to any applicant unless the applicant presents to the agent authorized to issue the license any one of the following:
    (1) Evidence that the applicant has held a trapping or furtaker's license issued by another state or nation.
    (2) A certificate of training issued under this section.
    (3) A certification signed by the applicant on the furtaker's license application that the applicant completed a voluntary trapping course sponsored by the commission or that the applicant has previously hunted or trapped furbearers within the last five years. The provisions of this section shall not apply to those persons under 12 years of age who trap furbearers under the direct supervision of an adult licensed furtaker 18 years of age or older.

I am a 53 yr old female - i just took the Hunting Safety Course a few weeks ago! One is never too old! I learned from it along with lots of kids and their parents. There were some other older people also so i wasn't the only older person there. It is free, its only around a day and a half of your time and I believe it is worth it and i came away with a little more knowledge.
