Love the concept of a life time permit, I'd even be willing to spend a little more up front to save teh costs in the long run.

As for Nation wide carry. I think there's a middle ground that could be more sucessfully attacked. Rather than a national license, how about enforcing the 14th ammendment, and getting Firearms permits treated as drivers licenses. This would keep the licensing as a state right, but have them recognized nation wide. Of course places like Hawaii, New York, Wash DC, Ill (expecially Chicago) would not like this, but I think it's our best shot.

So how did they do it for the driver's license? Good in every state.

Can't they do it the same way?

I believe Sen. George Allen introduced a bill that would've enacted such a nationwide carry system, and also would establish a federal bright line standard by which states that do not currently allow citizens to carry would have to honor other states permits.

Of course since he will no longer be in the senate, his bill will most likely die as well.

At least they were able to push it through for active and retired LEOs. That adds a decent number of good guys, and a few bad guys, who will be carrying.
