Let us at least decide on what is the best 9mm handgun before starting this debate.

I carry a nine but think the .40 is alittle better but it all comes down to shot placement. If you practice alot with a 9 and alittle with a .40 the 9 is going to be better.

Re: Which round is better for self defense, 9mm or .40 S&W
Talk about beating a dead horse. While many of the things he says are true, his writing style pisses me off. It is incomplete. NOW 9mm is a viable choice. In the 90s when he was thinking the .40 was the round, he was right, because until around 2003 there were no really good 9mm. It was a far superior round then. Now it is only marginally superior. He does admit he thinks there is a difference in the one shot stopping capability of the two rounds, but would rather put more rounds on target then depend on one to do the job....but what if you only hit the guy once before he gets behind cover. Or more importantly before he shoots back. Id rather stop him on the first try then trade shots with him. I do carry both though I recently switched to the 9mm because the bullets are good enough now, whereas they have always been good enough in .40.

PS.
I can shoot my 40oz p229 just as fast and accurately as I can fire my 22oz SDsc with +ps. Probably better since Ive practiced with it so much longer.

Re: Which round is better for self defense, 9mm or .40 S&W
I don't agree with this.
Both Federal 9BPLE 115gr+P+ and Corbon 115gr+P were available back in the 90s. Either one of them is a very solid choice for self defense, even today.
That being said, today's loadings in 9mm are even better due to the proliferation of solid copper and bonded core hollowpoint designs.

Tomatoes!!!...
(I prefer .40)
My sister's coache's brother's mother-in-law used to be married to the janitor of the bank and his sister's husband who used to be a cop said that anything less than .45 GAP makes aliens hump unicorns!!!Last edited by CHEMICAL; October 4th, 2011 at 08:01 PM.
