    Beats a .410 anytime.
What .357/.44s do you have that are more obtrusive than a SBS? Are you rocking a couple of mares' legs with a snake charmer for home defense?

    If so, that's just badass.

I bought a Mossberg .410 Crusier for home defense. Kinda wished I went 20 ga. but I wanted something my wife could handle. THe 20 ga. version has a lot more options as far as customization.

000 buck from a .410 would still do plenty of damage.

Have you or her actually shot the LCP?

Its actually a lot harder to shoot than something like a G19.

Small and light does not make a gun easy to shoot.

Isn't it the truth. I have a Kel-Tec PF9 and does that thing have a lot of punch. It's perceived recoil, since my pinky finger doesn't fit on the pistol grip and the sidearm is lighter than most, you have less control over it. Regardless, at the end of the day any intruder would think twice when staring down the barrel of anything (.410, 20, 12, 9mm, .380).

Buck shot or slugs are the only thing good enough to stop people. I read an article about the stopping power of bird shot on people from a 12ga at only a few feet. I was really surprised to learn most people survive. It will make a good sized crater but since the mass of the pellet is so small they do not penetrate deep enough to take out vital organs. I always thought 12ga =dead. This is the only .410 I would think would be a good home defense gun:

But I would want a 10 rd mag.

It's not easier to wield around but when I am sitting in my lazy chair watching tv it will be right next to me on the side-table. I do like all my handguns and but sometimes seeing that stoeger....well.....it has something to it that my handguns don't have. Here is exactly the same as I have being fired on youtube by some dude.

And I am thinking about getting me one like this next year.

There's a story in The Armed Citizen this month of a 68 year old woman using a .410 pump to drive off 3 attackers.

She hit 2 of them with bird shot at close range. I think all 3 were later captured.

IMO...for defense...bird shot = bird shit. I don't feel there is enough penetration for a reliable stop on a human sized attacker. I'm not saying it won't stop a fight....it could...but the penetration is not there. If you expect to be assaulted by doves, songbirds or bunny rabbits birdshot would be OK.

Also....IMO...any load that can be stopped by 2 layers of drywall is not sufficient to to engage a serious threat. JMO....do what you want. It's your life & your family's life. I'll stick with my 12ga loaded with buckshot....backed up with a .357 wheelgun & an 8" kabar knife. If a criminal(s) breaks into my house when I'm home...."it's on".....plain & simple.

Also...IMO...once you have considered a .410 shotgun....you may as well go with a handgun or a small carbine that fires handgun ammo....if recoil is a major concern.
