Destructive Devices?
I understand why the "Street Sweeper" shotgun was originally banned, but modern semi-auto shotguns are capable of the same rate of fire maybe 1 or 2 less rounds than the street sweeper. Anybody know if you can buy parts kits for them? or parts kits to legally build them?

Just like the old AWB, it didn't make any sense either. It didn't do anything except criminalize people.

I dont have a problem pay the "extortion tax", lol I just dont want to drop $2500.00 on a shotgun. I know some would say "then dont buy it", but I know when these things were first selling, you could pick them up for $600.00 a pop.
I agree with you armabill about all they did was criminalize people too. I have an older friend that bought one of these before the ban and its been sitting in his safe ever since. Has the original purchase reciept and everything. Problem is, he is MUCH out of touch with media, etc. Yes he does live like a hermit in the middle of nowhere. He offered to sell it to me for what he had in it since he knew I wanted it. I asked him where his amnesty paperwork to prove he got it registered and I was greeted with this glazed over "HUH?" look. I immediately told him to put it back in his safe until I could find more information out for him. Hell I dont want him to have to destroy it. its brand never, NEVER seen powder. I found out a few days ago, that it looks like all he can do is surrender it to ATF, what Im worried about is, will he still get into trouble? The beatings will continue until morale improves

Re: Destructive Devices?
the Streetsweepers and USAS12 and clones got DD status due to several things.
1. the brady Campaign specifically petitioned ATF to have them reclassified, and used the 1968 GCA to press the point...IE "sporting use".
2. The shotguns in question had a fixed capacity of 10 or more rounds, nothing less. All states have restrictions on magazine limits for hunting with semi shotguns, in the case of Federal Migratory Bird, its 3 rounds.
3. ATF only considers HUNTING to be the ONLY valid "sporting" use. Not IPSC, not trap and clays, not high power rifle, not SASS or cowboy shooting, not Camp Perry, NOTHING but hunting. Thus, in an examination of hunting regs around the country, it was found that something like 17 states allowed hunting with semiautos in general, more allowed semi hunting with shotguns, but all had magazine limits.
4. the shotguns in question had no way to reduce the magazine capacity( no plugs or such), so the combination of configuration, magazine capacity, and bore diameter led them to declare the shotguns non-sporting, then they declared them DDs based on "non sporting weapon with a bore over 1/2" "
during the ban the model were named as AWs themselves, thus you could not make one, these days you can, if living in a DD ok state.
for the current crop of semis, like Benellis, and remington 1100/87s, etc, they have never bothered with tube guns to declare them destructive devices, but have restricted them under the Fedral AW bans, which is now over.
Some folks are afraid that the high capacity mags now available for the Saiga series of shotguns will lead to thier being declared DDs, but, based on thier earlier criteria, and the fact that the guns are factory delivered with a low capacity magazine, it's unlikely they could apply the same measures on them this time around, add that to the easy disemmination of antigunner plans via the internet, we are forewarned.
just as a note, all NFA weapons themselves are 'non-sporting" in the ATFs eyes(unimportable for civilians), so for example, if you take a remington 870 smoothbore and chop the barrel, you have a short barel shotgun.
take the same remington 870 with a rifled deer barrel, and it can only be registered as a destructive device.... non-sporting weapon with a rifled barrel over 1/2" "

Re: Destructive Devices?
I heard and read that the street sweepers were HUGE POS's anyhow, SAUS (?) might be a better choice, but still a DD.
