Try and find a Commemorative version of a WW I or WW II. They are usually priced in that neighborhood. The WW I's were made in the late 60's and shoot well. They are somewhat rare to find for sale,,, but they do show up.
    George,
So many guns, so little money.

I believe the OP is referring to the model 1873, not the 1911.

OP - my advice is to first check with your local gunshops. Call around and ask. Second, try gunbroker.

If you cannot find what you're looking for, then I'd recommend joining one of the Single-Action shooting forums and asking those fellas.

Go here: http://oldguns.net/ Under $1,000? good luck on that, maybe a reproduction would be in order.

Uberti makes nice reproductions, and they're not overly expensive. I don't own one so I can't really tell you about their quality but here's a recent thread about them http://forum.pafoa.org/pistols-41/14...revolvers.html
