dad suprised the hell out of me!!
so we were sitting here talking about my ols remington 14's that i inhereted and he tells me that he wants to find an old colt single action army.... now my dad inst against shooting... just against anything that doesnt have to do with hunting....
so heres my question...... how the heck do i find one that costs less than 1k?? finish doesnt matter and honestly it downst have to function properly.... all that can be dealt with at a later time....
any suggestions???

Try and find a Commemorative version of a WW I or WW II. They are usually priced in that neighborhood. The WW I's were made in the late 60's and shoot well. They are somewhat rare to find for sale,,, but they do show up.

I believe the OP is referring to the model 1873, not the 1911.
OP - my advice is to first check with your local gunshops. Call around and ask. Second, try gunbroker.
If you cannot find what you're looking for, then I'd recommend joining one of the Single-Action shooting forums and asking those fellas.

Uberti makes nice reproductions, and they're not overly expensive. I don't own one so I can't really tell you about their quality but here's a recent thread about them http://forum.pafoa.org/pistols-41/14...revolvers.html
