    Default P220 vs P226/229 Decocker Question

    Looking for input from someone who own both a P220 and either a P226 or P229.

    I recently picked up a used P220 and have a question. Both my P226 and P229 decock the same way. Using the thumb of your right hand, If you keep steady thumb pressure on the Decocker, you can ride the hammer down softly.

    However, as soon as I apply thumb pressure to my P220's Decocker, the hammer decocks and I can't ride it down just using the Decocker.

    I noticed that some of the P220 internals are different that the P226/229.

    Is this P220 decocking normal?

    Curious about the age of your P220 if you know, and does the hammer drop to what seems partially cocked? As you note, there have been changes, most notably rebound/no rebound hammer spring, intercept notch/no intercept notch on the hammer. My P220 I bought NIB in Germany in 1990, has a KA date code (1990)/SN 173xxx, and when decocked the hammer drops to the intercept notch, and has no rebound spring.

    Mid 90's production is not like this, and I believe the change was around S/N 219xxx, where I believe also the frame was strengthened/beefed up, and recoil spring OE weight taken from 15/16, to 20/22lb.

    When I decock my 220, the hammer drops just a little, then I ride it down the rest of the way.
    I can't say yours is not correct. I can just tell you my 220 works the same as my 229 and 239.

    I bought a P245 when they first came out. That's how the decocker worked on it too. The hammer just dropped. When I bought my P229 I thought the 2 stage decock was weird simply because it was so different from my .45. I like it better though.

    It may be an older style 220.

    My SN is G 266537.

    It is a two tone. Slide says Made in Germany.

    What date does that correspond to?

    I have a P220 and P228, both from the mid 90s. They do the same thing. Never was a problem. I figured that the hammer spring was beefier in the 220. If you hold the decocker lever down with enough preasure you will be able to "ride" the hammer down. I just swipe the lever and let it drop on its own. I bought these guns new when I was 21 and never had an issue with either. They are are the only pistols I trust to do "social work".

    Thinking your pistol is a mid 90's type with the rebound spring, no hammer intercept notch, non spur hammer, thicker frame, and rounded hammer spur. What is the date code of your pistol? It will be a "K_" found under the slide nose under the Kiel proof house mark, and eagle with the "N" in its talons (Nitro proof).

    My older P220 w/o the above mentioned features can be walked down a bit decocking, but the hammer does not drop all the way down with the lever released because it does have the hammer intercept notch, and no hammer rebound spring.

    Sig went to the Straight drop because they found out there were people out there riding the decock lever rather than let the gun decock itself.

    Your Gun is perfectly normal , my 229 decocks the old fashion way so does my 2009.

    Seabee a "G" means your gun were made in 2006

    A= 0

    B-=1

    C=2

    D=3

    E=4

    F=5

    G=6

    For example a Sig that has a letter code of say AD is made in 2003.

    On the New Gen Sigs, Sig went to a single letter code.
