I do wish he would have posted an update.
If you look close to the trigger guard....that is definately late Garand....I assume that is the hammer sticking out of the "receiver" which should hit the "nipple" setting off the round.

The shame of it is if he'd stuck around, accepted the fact his rifle didn't seem up to spec.....for um, safety reasons......and listened up not only would he have had a wealth of knowledge to fall back on but the potential of getting assistance from members who could have guided him in the construction of a viable firearm.
Ok, for those still wondering the caliber......who has the guts to contact the guy and find out?When the SHTF......be the fan.

looks like a standard military grade stepped 8X57 or similar barrel. wait till they take all the guns, you will wish you knew this guy...
