Default Magnum Research Desert Eagle .50 Caliber Recoil

I was wondering how the recoil is on a Desert Eagle .50 caliber?

My son thinks they may have some sort of gas operated recoil reducing system.

A gentleman had a .45 caliber Glock with a .50 caliber slide on it at the local range maybe a year ago and he let me shoot it and it had a tremendous bounce.

I was wondering if the Magnum Research Desert Eagle has a nasty bounce to it.

There is a new one for sale locally and my son is considering it.

I want him to be aware of how they shoot and anyone with experience, please let us know.

    Thanks for any information.

    God bless!!!

youll know you pulled the trigger. Its not a real practical gun. costs alot to shoot and is huge. It also ejects the round straight back.
This is a friend of mine shooting one and he had no idea what he was getting himself into.

I did not mind the recoil on mine. If your son can afford it then I say buy it! They are fun but have no practical purpose. Just another hand cannon, except you cant hunt with it.

The Desert Eagle in .50AE has a pretty stout recoil. It doesn't employ a gas operation to reduce recoil; it employes a gas system in order to be able to chamber more powerful cartridges. See here for more info:

As far as Glocks, the only .50 cal conversion I know of is a kit made by Guncrafter Industries to convert to their custom load, the .50GI. However, the .50GI was designed to fire in a standard 1911 and Glock 23 with a conversion kit, but the action is still recoil, locked breech. In other words, the recoil of the .50GI you most likely shot is far less than the .50AE.

    Here's the .50GI next to a .45ACP:

and here's the .50AE in a lineup with .45ACP and others:

it's manageable for a decent sized person. the grip is huge so it's hard to get a grip on it. if you don't get a good grip you will get hurt and/or drop the gun. not recommended for women or children or anyone not familiar with shooting pistols for sure.

you were talking about the 50GI glocks....well I think the 50AE for the desert eagle will pack slightly more punch but not much based on the weight differences of the guns and the cartridges.

they have a nice punch as far as recoil, i dont think it is that bad in my opion the .480 or the 454 is way worse at least for me it is.
the problem ammo is not cheap it would be allot better if you reloaded.

It's stout, but it isn't painful or difficult to shoot. As mentioned above one of the most difficult parts of shooting it is keeping a good grip on the monstrous thing. I also had trouble with bumping the slide stop under recoil my first few times.

Over all it's a fun gun. Totally impractical, but fun. If you can afford the ammo, or plan to reload, it's a great toy.

Here is a video of my first time shooting it.
I won't make any apologies for my stance or letting the gun knock me around. It's a very intimidating gun to shoot the first few times. It's kinda funny, you can actually see me get down on the gun ready to shoot, but then I back off and away, not really wanting my face that close to the gun.

I'm interested in the fact that you had a couple of failures, yet you were shooting stiff. It is not a reliable gun. It is a Taurus story over and over with these things, plus, you can forget follow up shots, I don't care who you are. If you like it for the beef, go for it. Practical? No, but we all shoot stuff that is impractical, at times. Recoil? Look at the girl on you tube. It is not hype. You have to hold on to it to get it to do what you want, while at the same time, have an extraodinary sense for not jerking the trigger, should you actually want to hit your target. There are guys that shoot these, well, but they are 1 in 1000.
