My wedding ring broke so I took it to the jewelry store we use. When I picked it up the salesman said your a gun guy right. Yea whats up? ( keep in mind Wisconsin is getting CC soon). Well he goes, my in laws gave me a gift certificate to get a gun I could carry. I really like a 1911 but you can't conceal a 1911 so what should I get. My answer was first off you can conceal a 1911, put it on your hip with a jacket over it. and you would be good to go. We then went through the what should I get, whats important, what holster that kind of stuff. I also told him my carry will be a 1911 in a owb with a jacket over it. The guy caught me by surprise. My first CC encounter and I was not even carrying.

I carried a full sized 1911A1 for several years. I carried it IWB with the piece reversed. Made drawing cumbersome but made it quite concealable.

You can conceal a 1911 under a sport coat. Sitting down can be difficult. I had to learn to ease into a seat because the piece would "thunk" against the chair if I sat down quickly. Sitting in a car can be difficult, too.

I think I may suggest a different 1st handgun - 1911 a bit much for a newbie to master one would think.

But back on subject. Best to recommend to your friend that he spend some time at the range renting or borrowing some pistols finding out what feels good and most importantly fine the one that hits what he is aiming at.

Whats the aversion to shoulder holsters if I may ask? Just curious, no one ever seems to recommend them, but I find them to be very comfortable for CC.
