Parkerizing

Anyone here do their own parking? If so, do you buy your solution premixed? Mix yourself? Have Uncle Stinkies secret squirrel recipe that you might be bribed to share?

I use the Brownells concentrate....mixed with demineralized water. Built my own tank, use propane for heat, have a cheapo sears sandblaster.

Very suprised at the results. I have done 2 FAL's and when time permits I will be doing my 1919.

The key to home parkerizing is the prep work...no oil on the parts, no rust and bead blasting the parts prior to parking. Much easier than bluing.

If you can dye an Easter Egg, you can do a decent job parkerizing.

i use palmettos, just add distilled water. works great.

You also need to abrasive blast, not glass bead. Only use glass bead if you are looking for a thin, smooth parkerizing, otherwise it will proobably not be what you want. Too light and not vurable. 90-100 grit alox is probably the best place to start.

Try the concentrate from Allegheny Arsenal. www.mg34.com. Very easy to use, and a little goes a long way. 1 gallon of concentrate makes 28 gallons of solution. It's what I use on my products.

I use Brownell's Zinc and the Pre Black Dip. Allegheny Arsenal is also VG.

The prep work is definately the answer but the most important thing from experience that I found was to get the parts out of the tub and into the oil as fast as possible. The time spent in the air during the transfer can "chalk" the job if you delay.

I've used Palmetto Enterprises solution many times. Their product is very simple and gives great results. If you're still interested in doing it yourself I recommend using their Zinc or Manganese phosphating solution.
