    Default Cabela's

Just wanted to let you guys know that there is a firearms check in the main entrance at Cabela's. Although there's no sign on the front doors (that I saw) there is a small desk with an employee that says "all firearms brought into the store must be checked" (I guess for returns/repairs, whatever). Not sure if this is something new. This was my first time there, and I was a bit confused because I read how many of you OC'ed when shopping there.. ?

Overall though - wow, what a store!! Made a couple light purchases; it's so busy and large that you are asked to take a number at the firearms counters. The prices are a bit high as you'd expect in a store like that - although there is a pre-owned Glock I saw there at a decent price (if anyone is interested).

What I don't understand though is why there's no firing range, only archery? With the sheer size of that place, they could have created a fantastic one. Anyone know why there isn't? Is it something with the location of the store? Corporate policy? I walked in thinking there had to be one, but never found it.

I believe the firearm check only applies to people bringing in guns for service or to sell. Those CCing or OCing for protection don't need to check their firearms afaik.

Okay, the sign was quite specific reading "all firearms" - and I did read one thread here recently where someone said they were approached and told OCing was not allowed in Cabelas. I'm sure you'd all be fine with CC though.

Thank you for the recent email. I am very sorry for the confusion that took place at our retail location.
Our corporate office has taken action in regards to the below mentioned issue and here is what has been decided.
We have made the decision to comply with state laws in regards to open carry. We do not ask customers to check concealed or open carry weapons where the state has laws governing this situation. Our signs refer to firearms that are being returned or sold to Cabela's.

If you are still having problems please feel free to let us know

    Thanks again

I would love to see a photo of this sign.

The only place I'll buy something where I have to take a number is the Deli, and I really don't like that either. I wouldn't waste my time buying at gun a Cabelas.

Check out this thread. The OP decided to be an ass and delete all his posts after he got perma-banned but if you scroll down to post #31 there's a PDF of Cabela's official policy.

I was recently in BassPro shop in Harrisburg, they have a similar sign. I reluctantly went to the desk and asked, "all firearms?" The guy looked me over and did not see a gun and said "not for CC". I continued into the store. Guess they are leaving their signs open to interpretation rather than a lengthy sign laying out all of the possibilities.

I have OC'd dozens of times in Cabelas and was only told one time that it must stay in the holster (no fitting in others holsters, etc.) The sign is for firearms to be repaired, smithed, or appraised, etc.

How is BassPro anyway? I pass by it all the time on the way to school, have been meaning to stop in.
