Therein lies the irony of the quote.

Pigs use their noses to find truffles.

Many of these carjacking etc occurances could be prevented by the victims if they just had situational awareness and some freaking common sense. I guess they didn't have mothers like mine who started the whole thing when I was old enough to understand (age 4 if I recall). I learned not only about looking both ways and making sure of no traffic before crossing a street, but I learned about locking the car doors after getting in, keeping windows rolled up when stopped at a light, not getting into a car with a stranger, not leaving my bike out in the front yard, to answer the phone when home alone and not to allude to the fact I am alone " sorry my mom is in the bathroom and can't come to the phone", to not unlock and open the door to talk to anyone other than my parents, my friends, or uniformed police/firefighters ( of course we had a big barky german shepherd that made it hard to open the door to strangers anyway). Furthermore I used to hide if a stranger was at the door (salesman and whatnot), and had concocted different hiding places, such as literally hiding under the pile of toys and clothes in my closet- just in case someone got in and past the dog. I learned more and more things as I got older, and the natural "sheepdog scan" just sort of emerged, probably at about age 5 to start, then grew as I grew.

So, what do you do in AC at night after leaving a casino? First off, make sure you sober up inside before heading out. Even with a desiginated driver, the drunken other can be a distraction all by itself, and you may not notice the creeps creeping towards you. When you do head out, sober, keep distance between yourself and all other parked cars and walk where you can see all around you and scan around as you walk. If some weirdo types start walking towards you, or someone just makes you feel queasy, go back to the casino or go to a well lit area full of people. As a last resort, lock onto the suspicious person and give a look that says " I don't fear shit! Fuck off!", and you can opt to start pulling your shirt back like you are armed. It may or may not work. It once worked for me, but I did have a big protective dog as my primary. It was when the dog wasn't enough deterance that I went to plan b.

Yes I have been in AC- once. Some years back this guy and I went to see the Titanic exhibit at the Tropicana. He's a jerk LOL, but he had the street smarts and fight in him just like me. We used our normal Baltimore situational awareness, and "looks", and even had to scrap a bit to get into the exhibit, as there were rude people or something we had to get past or something or another. Later when we left, it was dark. No problems at all, I don't even recall seeing suspicious people, but our mannerism may have made them duck into the shadows, who knows. The ride home was filled with tons of rain and crazy truckers, and damn if I didn't ever want to go NJ ever again! Though the southern part was rural and people were friendly down there, and there's even a rodeo.
    LOL, I am a woman...
