I used this site to get throught my first take down and reassembly.

    http://www.1bad69.com/ruger/field_strip.htm

Make sure the hammer is forward (fired position), and point the muzzle upward about 45-50 deg so that the hammer strut hangs in the correct position when you install the main spring housing. Like anything else, it get easier after the first time.

Just curious, what model is it?

It really is a great gun~you don't have to tear it down all the way everytime you need to clean it, but practice makes perfect. Whenever I take mine apart (5.5" SS Bull) I have to have the book open or I'll get one step wrong.

    I feel your pain.
This is why I rarely shoot my Ruger MKII.
    I is a PITA.

This video seems pretty clear, and he has information that may help if you ever want to disassemble it further.

They get a little easier as they wear.

They're PITAs because of the safety crap. The original ones were probably easy to take down and put together.

They are wonderful handguns. I have a lot of "Crappy" 22 rimfire ammo. Rather than cry about it I shoot it in my Mark II. Gives me practice in clearing jams and failures to fire/feed. Can't beat that!

I FELT the pain as well. Sold it after a bulk pack and its 1st cleaning.

IMHO, No handgun with that old a pedigree should have to have paper-clips and hammers in the cleaning kit.
All of my guns are lubed with BACON GREASE.
