ATI GSG 1911 .22lr
Making its debut just before the 100th anniversary of the 1911 pistol, the GSG-1911 couldn’t have hit the market at a better time. This dedicated .22 LR pistol features one 10-round capacity (detachable) magazine, semi-automatic recoil operated system, 5" barrel length, and is 8.5" long overall with 6 grooves. The GSG-1911 features the same weight and feel of a classic 1911 pistol and 80% of the parts are interchangeable with a standard 1911. Features a 5lb trigger and threaded barrel.
First off. No hating. No hating on 1911's, GSG or .22lr.
The gun club I recently joined, and have been to every day since joining, has weekly matches on Tuesday nights. Different matches with different themes and targets etc. One thing they have in common is they're almost all exclusively .22lr matches.
I want to get involved in the weekly matches. The only .22lr I have is a bolt action rifle with non-adjustable sights. Needless to say, that's not an option. I was at Classic Pistol on wedsnday to buy more bullets and stopped to check out the .22lr pistol case and the GSG 1911 caught my eye and so did the $309 price-tag.
I've always wanted a 1911 style pistol. Though it's probably not something I would really carry. I'm pretty happy with my Glock as an every day carry gun. So let's not discuss that in this topic.
I'm looking at the GSG 1911 as a discreet .22lr 15 yard target shooting gun. I'm not the world's best shooter, so I really wouldn't take advantage of the world's best gun either. These weekly matches aren't particularly serious, and I really just want to participate even if I don't win. Once I become a better shooter I may get serious and step up and get a competition shooting gun. Right now though, I'm not interested in spending that kind of money on a gun when I know my inaccuracy is more me than whatever gun I'm shooting.
How is the GSG brand? Anyone here own a GSG 1911 .22lr? How do you like it? How does it compare to an authentic 1911? Is it accurate? What do you guys think?
Update: Bought the gun

www.m1911.org a few members have them and like them, plus something like 90/95% of 45cal. 1911 parts are interchangeable, also the feel and weight are just about the same.
Government 99 and 44/100 % pure bullshit.

Re: ATI GSG 1911 .22lr
I have one of these and absolutely LOVE it. I cannot recommend that gun enough. It's not very picky on ammo, and is as accurate as I am.
I had to deal with their customer service over an issue and they were great. No questions asked, sent me the exact parts I needed and a couple extras (like a spare recoil spring) very quickly. Great to deal with. The issue I had was a known one and it was the barrel bushings used to be made out of a cheap pot-metal and would break sending the spring plug and spring out the front. As far as I know they have since corrected the problem by using a much stronger steel bushings.
ETA: This is my only 1911, so I have no general basis for comparison to the platform as a whole. But, this one has definately made me want another 1911.Last edited by Entropy; September 17th, 2011 at 08:49 PM.

Re: ATI GSG 1911 .22lr
I love mine. My only complaint is that it shoots high even with the highest front post installed. (it comes with three) When I get some free time I'm going to build up the top of one of my posts with some epoxy, then take it to the range and slowly sand it down until it's spot on. A quick shot of paint after that and it should be the perfect plinking toy. (Or you could save yourself the hassle and just buy an aftermarket front post. I've read there are a few out there.)

Thanks for the information guys. Now I just need to find the best deal on the gun.
How about the fake silencer, does it impact the functioning of the firearm at all?

Re: ATI GSG 1911 .22lr
YES, unfortunately it does. The can seems to cause some turbulence that ends up greatly reducing the guns accuracy.
I shot it first with the can attached and immediately thought, "WTF, this thing is a piece of shit!" At 25' my groups are generally 2-3", but with the can attached it expands to a massive 10-12".

Re: ATI GSG 1911 .22lr
I want this now! Actually i was also looking at the Browning 1911-22. 85% scale and looks nice.
Either way, nice addition to the collection. Classic you say? What if I buy it out from under you?DISCOUNTS - Steel Target Paint: beaverje10 (10% off) | Wiland USA: jbeaver05 (5% off)
