Economy revolvers

I watched the movie Tombstone again, and decided I would like to add two revolvers to my collection.

I'm basically looking for the AK47 of the 6 shooter world. They'll probably be used in the rain and abused in general.

I want it to go bang every time, but I want it cheap and probably even ugly. Blued is fine, 45 colt preferably and double action preferably but single action works. I don't want to be working on them all the time so tested and proven to work.

So what is on the market that fits the bill?

If nothing like that is out there right now, then I'll just have to raise my standards.

Unless you're reloading, 45 Colt is an expensive proposition.

GP100 hands down is going to be your best bang for your buck. You can get one used for around $400 and it will last longer than you.

My picks in .45 would be:

1. Ruger Blackhawk. Around $400 new in blue, which isn't cheap, but it's a fantastic value for a gun that will last forever and handle the hottest 45 loads.

2. Uberti Cattleman, currently on sale at Tanner's for $250.

Both of the above are single action. A DA gun of comparable quality is going to be substantially more expensive.

BTW, if you haven't priced .45 Colt ammo lately, sit down and take a deep breath before you do. You may want to think about a .22 as a second gun for cheap range fun. The Ruger Single Six /Ten is really nice. Or, consider .38/.357 as a compromise alternative.

Get the rossi 971 4 inch barrel in 357 magnum,good range gun and you can always shoot 38 special. Good value money wise too.

What's your budget look like? I think that'll help us determine the best bang for your buck.

When it comes down to it I'm all for S&W wheel guns, even if it pushes my budget.


PS, you want .357/.38, not .45 colt.

To the Op Colt and Cheap is not going to happen. Colt = Much money to buy, it just does. Now Colt like and cheap can be done if you look around at one time you could get a Ruger SA revolver for $146-$285 22LR-44mag but now since the western shooting movement all revolvers especially SA revolvers have jumped up in price. Colt SA as I stated usually bring a premimum price, Ruger is a little cheaper and more durable. Then you got cheap to high dollar Cimmarons and the all brands in between. Now days look to spend $200-$400 for a SA Revolver in 38-45Long colt caliber. Unless its a Colt $400-600-$4K, Ruger $285-$650, Ulberti $245-$800.

If you watched Tombstone, you wan't a single action pistol. Throw all the double action out. I'd also suggest 45lc.
