Del water gap for grouse?
Trying to find some place with in a 2-3 hour drive of Chester county that holds good grouse hunting. It doesn't seem to be to easy apparently. Stumbled upon some thing that suggested DWGNRA might be a good ticket. Any one have any info?

I've seen a number of grouse while camping in/near Bald Eagle state forest. It's a little over a 3 hour drive from you but you could make a long weekend out of it if you enjoy camping.

Re: Del water gap for grouse?
Your best grouse hunting IMO is where there a lot’s of forest roads or logging roads that border old cuts or rejuvenating forest. Grouse are border animals. I've seen more grouse leisurely walking along old logging paths and the like than busting my hump thrashing through thickets. So if the DWGNRA has lots of gated overgrown roads you'll probably do well.

Re: Del water gap for grouse?
Yeah, sorry... didn't think about that. We camp at Poe Paddy state park and all along the logging roads we've seen a lot of grouse.
I know a few good grouse spots in Western Pa (at least they seem to be good when I'm deer hunting...) but that's a 5 hour + drive...

Re: Del water gap for grouse?
Thanks soup.
Yeah that seems to be my main issue, all the good grouse spots are to far for me to drive. If i'm driving 3+ hours i might as well drive to my parents house in N.Y. their property is loaded with grouse but its about 5 hours from me. My real issue is i work 40hrs a week and go to school 30 hours a week so time is really tight. i could take a weekend of but honestly its not really worth it since here in PA theres no hunting on sundays.WHEN DEMOCRACY TURNS TO TYRANNY, THE ARMED CITIZEN STILL GETS TO VOTE

We used to hunt the DWGRA west of the river and south of the AT around where national Park Road meets Totts Gap Rd. Mixture of fields and woods w/ cotontail & grouse.

Re: Del water gap for grouse?
Down on National Park road all I've seen is crow squirrel and the groundhog I shot. No grouse or pheasants. But I'll keep trying my luck down there.
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.
